Design
The lightweight Acer Iconia A1-830 has a modernly slim profile with white and silver color scheme. samsung np r510 power jack Its smooth finish and rounded corners and edges provide a comfortable melt-in-your-hands experience, though there isn't any grip support to the design. The white plastic front has a tactiliy flimsy feel, but the A1-830's sturdy aluminum back distracts from any signs of cheap construction. With a 7.9-inch display and 4:3 aspect ratio, it opts for the typical on-screen Android navigation bar instead of physical buttons, and it features an Acer logo in the center of the bottom bezel, with the front-facing camera in the middle of the top bezel. When in landscape orientation, asus transformer t100 power pack the side bezels easily accommodate thumbs, and when in portrait mode, holding it in one hand isn't a stretch -- even for my small hands. The top edge of the tablet houses a microphone pinhole, a Micro-USB port, and a headphone jack. On the right edge, the prominently protruding power and volume buttons sit on top, while the microSD card slot -- expandable up to 32GB -- is located a few inches below. The back of the tablet is appropriately simple, with dual-speakers on the bottom half and the rear-facing camera on the top right corner. The Iconia A1-810, the model before the A1-830, offered a Micro-HDMI port, but it appears Acer sacrificed it on the new model to meet its low-price and/or the trendy thin-is-in tablet standard.
Build
Acer has a history of producing well-priced laptops and tablets that offer good value in the spec-per-pound equation, but not always impressive build. However, the Acer Iconia A1 tries pretty hard to up Acer’s game. There’s nothing fancy about the Iconia A1’s construction. It has a hard white plastic back and silver plastic sides, but feels solid in a manner that can stand up to the Google Nexus 7. There are no worrying creaks and it doesn’t feel as though the thing might fall apart any minute. It feels better-made than the surface pro 3 charger, which we got to grips with earlier this year. The Acer Iconia A1 is, however, a good deal chunkier and heavier than the iPad mini - which it emulates to an extent. It is 10.5mm thick and 400g in weight. That extra thickness is no problem at all, but the weight makes it that bit less comfortable to use one-handed than either a Nexus 7 or lenovo z500 battery. Maybe it’s down to our weedy forearms, but we did find it tiring after a while - two-handed is best. What is just as important as weight in the Acer Iconia A1, though, is the aspect ratio. With a 4:3 aspect screen, the A1 isn’t as elongated - relatively speaking - as other Android tablets, which generally have widescreen displays. This shape of screen is the perfect fit for a tablet this size, seeming to offer a much larger screen than a 7-inch widescreen tablet without a dramatic loss of portability. Apple was smart with its design of the 7.9-inch, 4:3 aspect iPad mini, in other words.
Connectivity
Although it’s hard not to compare the Iconia A1 with the iPad mini given they’re aiming at the same design goal, other aspects of the tablet’s hardware are 100 per cent Acer. Look at its edges and you’ll see design follows function. On the right edge there’s a microSD memory card slot and a microHDMI video output. These, and the pinhole mic that sits between them, are clearly labelled in style-less, guile-less fashion. The Acer Iconia A1’s intentions are in the right place, but it won’t be winning any awards for its looks.
Features
Like the iPad mini, the Acer Iconia A1-810 has a 4:3 aspect ratio that appeals to us, especially for browsing, though it does mean black bars above and below widescreen movies. It's consequently got the same resolution as its rival, too, with 1024 x 768 pixels on its 8-inch LCD panel. Physically asus x200ca charger the Acer has a few hidden gems, with GPS and its quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 1.2GHz processor leading the way. Held in portrait orientation, the left side is completely barren of buttons and connections. On the top is a single standby button on the right, while the bottom hosts a 3.5mm headphones jack and a micro USB slot (for charging and file transfers), also on the right. The right-hand side hosts the rest of the ins and outs - an HDMI output for routing to a TV and a volume rocker both flank the Acer Iconia A1's microSD card slot. That's certainly something the iPad mini doesn't offer, and it does mean the Acer Iconia A1's native 16GB storage can be improved upon by as much as 32GB extra. Still, a USB slot, as found on the Acer Iconia Tab A210, would have been great - what a brilliant idea.
Movies, music and books
Though video playback is fast and smooth, it's here that we begun to notice the Acer Iconia A1's physical shortcomings. Yes, the resolution is a bit low, and if you're watching any HD files you won't exactly be blown away, but we're actually more worried about the screen's other drawbacks.charger for lenovo g580 It's not very bright, even on its highest setting, and though that's more of a problem for browsing that watching movies or reading, it's indicative of a pretty uneventful display.Colours don't exactly whizz from the screen, and we also noticed a slight bias towards yellow-green, while contrast is lacking and black areas of the image get a uniform dark grey look.
Apps and games
In the widgets area we found a range of Acer's own apps. Acer Cloud storage is available, as are a range of apps under the Acer Life banner. Life Image is on the Acer Iconia A1's taskbar by default, and is a live scrapbook that's clearly aimed at kids. You take pictures within the app - no need to fire up the separate camera app - and automatically edit, caption and resize them for the digital page. It creates a chronological scrapbook that's lenovo yoga 2 pro charger stamped, so you can touch the corner of each photo to have the Acer Iconia A1 launch Google Maps and locate the exact location that the photo was taken from.Other Acer-made apps include Life Digital Clock and Life Weather, which are just what you'd imagine. Otherwise, there's access to the full suite of apps on Google Play.
Battery life
The battery is one of the Acer Iconia A1's highlights. Acer promises a seven-hour stint between charges - a shade under the original iPad mini and about the same as the current generation - though in our real-life tests we consistently managed a little more.It compares well to other eight-inch tablets, since the hour-long Nyan Cat test on full brightness set the Acer Iconia A1 back from fully charged to 86 per cent, lenovo yoga 2 pro charger while a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 sunk to just 56 per cent - though the Samsung does have a much brighter, much better screen. Perhaps a better comparison is with the similarly priced and sized Archos 80 Titanium, which reduced to 64 per cent in the same test.An Acer Iconia A1 left fully charged at 11.30pm, with Wi-Fi left on, was down to 98 per cent the next morning.
